Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan reiterated that mining companies operating the country must properly pay their financial obligations to the state or risk their licenses revoked.

Speaking at a hearing session with the House of Representatives Commission VII on energy and mining on Tuesday, Jonan said that the government will take tough actions against recalcitrant miners ranging  from suspension of production and sales to revocation of licenses.

“It’s important to be in compliance, pay the financial obligations every month,” he said.

He said that to help improve compliance, the ministry since March 1 has applied a real time on-line payment system, which will greatly improve monitoring and reduce arrears and irregularities.

Jonan said that the ministry is also cooperating with the Ministry of Finance and the Corruption Eradication Commission.
