Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said Friday that they were in talks with the Minister of Industry and Trade, Rini Soewandi, about the imposition by the latter of counter trade deal attached in the importation of equipment for Tanjung Jati B steam power plant in Central Java.

?We want to settle the issue as soon as possible,? Purnomo told reporters.

The imposition of counter trade deal had caused a problem to Japanese trading house Sumitomo Corp because the firm found it difficult to find out what commodities could be imported from Indonesia as part of the deal.

Sumitomo will lead the construction of the 1,320- megawatt Tanjung Jati B project to be located in Jepara, Central Java. The project will cost US$1.6 billion, and is expected to start operation in 2006.

Japan Bank for International Cooperation and a syndication of other Japan-based financial institutions will finance the project. (godang)
