Ministries finish study on use of Donggi Senoro gas

An interministerial committe has finished study on options to utilize gas from the Donggi Senoro field in Central Sulawesi, Kompas.com said.

The study has been submitted to Vice President Boediono and he was expected to make a decision on the allocation of the Donggi Senoro gas later this month, Minsiter of Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Saleh was quoted by the website as saying on Friday.

Meanwhile, the ministry's Director General of Oil and Gas Evita Herawati Legowo explained there are several options recommended in the study for the utilization of gas from the Donggi Senoro field. The gas could either be used to meet domestic needs or be entirely converted into LNG or exported overseas.

?It can also be used as an LNG or fuel for fertilizer plants. The issue will be discussed in a cabinet meeting. Hopefully, a decision on the development of the gas field can be issued in January,? she said.

To date, three local companies have expressed interest in buying Donggi Senoro gas, namely PT Pupuk Sriwijaya (Pusri), PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and PT Panca Amara Utama(PAU).

the owners of the field, state owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina and PT Medco Energi International, howerver prefer exporting the gas in the form of LNG. (*)
