Ministry assigns SOEs to develop geothermal areas

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will assign this year three state-owned enterprises (SOEs) including PT PLN, PT Geo Dipa and PT Pertamina Geothermal to develop seven geothermal working areas, Kontan reported on Monday.

The paper quoted the ministry?s Geothermal Director Yunus Saefulhak as saying that the ministry will also offer five geothermal working areas to other investors via tender this year.

Yunus said that the five geothermal working areas to be offered via tender include Gunung Sirung geothermal area in Pulau Alor with planned power plant capacity of 10 MW, Bora Pulu in Central Sulawesi (20 MW), Oka Ile Ange in Flores (20 MW), Jalolo in Halmahera (60 MW), and Simbolon Samosir in North Sumatra (220 MW). As such, the geothermal working areas to be offered via tender have the potential to produce a combined 330 MW of electricity.

Elsewhere, the paper said that PLN will be assigned to developed three geothermal working areas with combined capacity of 140 MW, Geo Dipa will get two geothermal working areas with combined capacity of 165 MW, and Pertamina one working area with planned capacity of 110 MW. The ministry has yet to decide which SOE will be assigned to develop the Ciremai geothermal working area. (*)
