Ministry completes mining draft law

Saturday, June 2 2001 - 06:00 AM WIB

The ministry of energy and mineral resources had completed drafting the mining law and sent it to the palace for final approval.

The draft law, designed to replace the existing Mining Law No. 12/1967, should get clearance from the President before being submitted to the House of Representatives for approval.

"We sent the draft law to the state secretariat last week," the ministry's legal office head TA Nurwinakun told Petromindo. Com on Friday.

While the state secretariat was doing a final review of the draft law, other ministries were expected to give their last comments on the draft law to the secretariat, Nurwinakun said.

The country's mining industry has called for a new mining law because the existing law, which gives the central government the rights of supervising and managing the country's mining resources, was considered no longer applicable following the implementation of the autonomy laws, which transfers the rights to the regional authorities.
