The Ministry of Mines and Energy delayed on Thursday signing new mining contracts of work until designate Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro takes office.

"The signing of the contracts will be conducted after the new minister is installed," a spokesman of the ministry said.

The ministry planned to award Thursday three coal contracts of work to the subsidiaries of Australian conglomerate Broken Hill Proprietary Ltd (BHP) and to renew the contracts of tin mining company PT Koba Tin and granite producer PT Karimun Granite.

President Abdurrahwan Wahid announced on Wednesday the new lineup of the Cabinet, including Purnomo as Minister of Mines and Energy to replace Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who becomes Coordinating Minister of Social and Political Affairs. (--George Blunt--).
