Ministry drafts regulation on hydro power plant tender

The Ministry of Public Works and People?s Housing is drafting a regulation on tender process to select investors to develop hydro power potential of dams owned by the ministry, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.
Head of Dam Facilities at the ministry, Imam Santoso was quoted by the paper as saying that the regulation on tender mechanism is expected to be completed later this year, so that the tender can start at the end of the year.
He said that there are 65 dam facilities under the ministry which have the potential to generate up to 408 MW of electricity.
He added that many private investors are interested to develop the hydro power projects.
Imam said that if the tender can be held later this year, it would be the first for the ministry as in the past the government appointed state electricity firm PT PLN to develop the hydro power plant projects. (*)
