Ministry issues decrees on Papua, Kalimantan, Maluku Islands Mining Areas

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has issued three new decrees on the allocation of Mining Areas in Papua, Kalimantan, and Maluku.

The ministry issued Decree No 4004K/30/MEM/2013 on the allocation of Mining Areas on Papua Island, Decree No 4003 K/30/MEM/2013 for Kalimantan Island, and Decree No 4002 K/30/MEM/2013 for Maluku.

According to the copies of the decrees obtained Friday, the Mining Areas in the respective islands comprise of mining business area, people?s mining area, and state reserve area.

The Mining Areas will become the legal basis for governors, regents and mayors in the respective islands in issuing non-metal and metal minerals, rocks and/or coal mining permits.

The decree says that the Mining Areas can be reviewed once in five years.

The ministry earlier in August of 2013 issued a similar decree on the allocation of Mining Areas on Sulawesi Island.

Director General of Coal and Mineral R. Sukhyar said that the decrees on the allocation of Mining Areas in Bali, Sumatra, and East Nusa Tenggara are still being processed.
