Ministry of Mines and Energy to issue decree on regional autonomy

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will soon issue a decree on the implementation of regional autonomy in the mining sector, according to director general of mining Surna T. Tjahjadiningrat.
Surna was quoted by the evening Suara Pembaruan daily as saying that the new ministerial decree would comprise of 121 chapters to provide guideline for the provinces when they receive the transfer of authority in the mining sector from the central government in November this year.
He said that the draft of the decree has been socialized, and the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA) had called for a delay in the issuance of the decree pending the approval of the new law on mining by the parliament.
IMA said that the existing mining law No. 11/1967 should not be used as the basis of the decree.
But Surna said that the government would go ahead with the decree, but added that the government would not used the Law No. 11/1967 as the basis. (*)
