The Ministry of Trade will hold the authority to supervise the implementation of the clause in Law No.4/2009 on Minerals and Coal that bans mineral exports starting on January 12, 2014.

The ministry will however coordinate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) and the Directorate General of Customs in conducting its supervisory role, MEMR?s Deputy Minister Susilo Siswoutomo said in Jakarta on Friday.

"The Ministry of Trade will issue a circular to all mineral mining companies that export of minerals is not allowed anymore," said Susilo.

"Mining companies such as PT Freeport Indonesia and PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara must also abide by the rule. Both companies should stockpile their concentrates here and are not allowed to export them," he said.

Susilo said the government will also closely monitor that have been reportedly often used to export mineral ores illegally so that such illegal activities will not happen again,

If a mining company is caught exporting mineral ores, the government will impose sanctions on them by either jailing their executives or revoking its license or contract, Susilo warned.
