Indonesia’s export volume of tin is expected to rise, following the issuance of export license to PT Prima Istana Prima and CV Prima Timah Utama, Kontan Daily reported on Tuesday.
Director of Mineral and Industrial Export at the Ministry of Trade Aang Kanaan Adikusumah disclosed that following the issuance of new export licenses, the number of approved exporters of tins had risen to 12.
“The (new) licenses were issued on May 3. Now, (another export license for) a company named Sariwiguna Pertiwi is under process,” he said in Jakarta on Monday.
Sariwiguna had yet to prove that it had a mining concession, Aang said.
Meanwhile, the ministry's Director General of Domestic Trade Ardiyansah Parman disclosed that the government had enforced an inter-insular tin trading regulation to prevent smuggling.
Regulation of the Minister of Trade No. 10/M-DAG/PER/4/2007 requires sellers, among others, to have complete mining licenses as well as recognition document from the industry and trade office of destination region.
In a related development, Pangkal Pinang District Court ruled in favour of six tin smelters accused of operating without mining concession and mining sand illegally.
Reading the verdict, the panel of judges chaired by Maria F Widjaya said that the defendants were not guilty because of overlapping government regulations regarding tin mining.
The six businessmen were Apik Chakib Rasjidi and Ismiyardi (commissioners of CV Donna Kembara Jaya), Ernawan Rebuin and Johan (directors of CV Donna Kembara Jaya), Thamron (director of PT Bangka Putra Karya) as well as Suwito (director of CV DS Jaya Abadi).
Lilin Herlina, a member of the panel of judges, argued that the independent smelters had been built on the suggestion from the regent Eko Maulana Ali in order to curb the rampant mining of tin sand and the licenses were issued by the local industry and trade office.(*)
