Ministry: Only 743 MW of 35 GW program have reached operation stage

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that only 743 MW of the government?s five-year program to develop a combined 35,000 MW power plant projects until 2019 have reached operation status.
The ministry said in a statement on Saturday, unveiling the progress of the 35,000 MW program launched din 2015, the power plants which have been in operation mostly comprise of renewable-based power plants.
The statement said that 13,816 MW are still in construction stage. The status of the remaining projects are as follows. A total of 8,210 MW have already signed power purchase agreement (PPA) with state-owned electricity firm PT PLN, 5,845 MW still in procurement process, and 7,212 MW still in planning stage.
?Power plant projects under 35,000 MW program which have been in operation total 743 MW, comprising of 37 projects located in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulwesi, Nusa Tenggara and Papua. As many as 30 power plants are using clean energy including gas, solar, hydro and biogass. Although gas-fired power plant projects can also use diesel fuel, only 7 projects are using diesel as fuel,? the statement said.
Power plants using diesel as fuel, which is faster to be developed, are located in the country?s outlying islands and border areas.
The statement said that 16 power plants located in Lampung, Bangka Belitung, Jambi, Riau and North Sumatra provinces use natural gas as fuel.
