Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has ordered East Kalimantan coal mining firm PT.Lanna Harita Indonesia to temporarily stop production as the company has been considered careless in conducting mining operations.

MS Marpaung, Director of Mines Technical and Environmental Affairs at the ministry told Petromindo.Com on Tuesday that the company?s operations has caused landslide in a pit on December 2, which in turn caused flooding to nearby villages.

?The ministry has ordered closure temporary closure since Monday and production could be re-stared once the company has complied with good mining operations procedure,? Marpaung said.

Lanna officials would not comment on the matter.

Lanna Harita Indonesia is a subsidiary of Thai firm Lanna Resources. The company said in June 2008 to plan to produce 1.8 million tonnes from the mine, most of which would be exported to India, Taiwan and Thailand. (godang/denny)
