Ministry promotes biofuel use in steel industry

Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry expects biofuel to make up at least 5 percent of the fuels used by the country?s steel industry by the end of the year.

?Although the roadmap for biofuel mandatory use requires the percentage to hit 10 percent this year, I think 5 percent is a good start, especially as the price is currently favorable,? said Dadan Kusdiana, Director of Bioenergy at the Directorate of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry, in Jakarta on Monday.

According to him, the steel industry consumes about 2 million kl of fuel a year.

At present, only the nation?s transportation sector has implemented the biofuel mandatory roadmap, with coal and mineral mining industry expected to soon follow suit.
