Ministry promotes real-time, integrated ICT system to improve control

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is encouraging improving the implementation of advanced information and communication technology (ICT) system to assist the process of monitoring and controlling key activities in the upstream oil and gas sector.
"The application of appropriate information technology can help address the challenges faced by SKK Migas and contractors to improve oversight of oil and gas production," said Deputy Minister Susilo Siswoutomo during a meeting on the issue with PSC Holders organized by upstream authority SKK Migas in Bandung Monday.
Susilo said those challenges include the lack of tools to assist in the administration, management and processing of data on production and exploration, monitoring of cost recovery and business process alignment. Through the application of this information technology, providing data becomes more rapid, accurate, transparent, integrated, and easily accessible to main stakeholders.
"Since 2012, SKK Migas has developed several ICT systems, including drilling monitoring, PSCs? operational ship movements monitoring, and authorization for expenditure (AFE) by online," said Muliawan, SKK Migas Deputy of Operation Control, adding that at the end of last year, up to 90 percent production has been received through these systems.
In 2013, SKK Migas plans to undertake the Integrated Operating System (IOS) on WP&B, on management asset, on PSCs? financial reports ? all be updated every three months. The reporting system will connect SKK Migas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Ministry of Finance, as well as contractors.
"SKK Migas requires real-time field data from contractors to improve the function of supervision and control," said Muliawan.
