Ministry proposes nine smelter-based industrial estates

The Ministry of Industry has proposed a five-year program until 2019 to develop a total of 14 industrial estates in the country, nine of which would be based on smelter industries.
I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan, Director General for Metal, Machinery, Transportation, and Electronic Industries at the ministry said that the industrial estates would help promote the development of new industrial towns particularly outside Java.
According to the ministry?s presentation material, the nine smelter-based industrial estates include aluminum-based industrial estate in Kuala Tanjung (in North Sumatra Province), industrial estate in Palu (Central Sulawesi), ferronickel and stainless steel industrial estate in Buli (Maluku), steel industrial estate in Batu Licin (South Kalimantan), alumina industrial estate in Ketapang (West Kalimantan), bauxite industrial estate in Jorong (South Kalimantan), ferronickel and stainless steel industrial estate in Bantaeng (South Sulawesi), ferronickel and stainless steel industrial estate in Morowali (Central Sulawesi), and ferronickel and stainless steel industrial estate in Konawe (Southeast Sulawesi).
The ministry is also proposing for the development of oil and gas, fertilizer-based industrial estate in Bintuni, Papua.
