The ministry of energy and mineral resources launches on Tuesday a booklet containing guidelines for investors to develop power plants using landfill gas in Indonesia.
Director General of New, Renewable and Energy Conservation Ridha Mulyana said in a statement that Indonesia has potential generate 2,066 MW of power from landfill gas. In reality, only 17.6 MW of the potentials have been developed. Thus, there are still a lot of potentials that are still undeveloped.
?There is a lot of garbage in the country, which has not been utilized yet and thus causes environmental problems as it produces gas methane emission (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). In fact, garbage can potentially produce biomass energy which can be converted into other energy, including electricity,? Ridha said.
In order to attract investors to develop power from landfill gas, the ministry issued the feed in tariff for power from landfill gas in Ministerial Regulation No. 44/2015 on the Purchasing by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) of Power Generated from City Landfills, which replaces Ministerial Regulation No. 19/2013.
