Ministry reviews proposed import duty on wire rod

The Ministry of Industry is still reviewing a proposal made by the Indonesian Trade Safeguard Committee (KPPI) to apply import duty on wire rod products, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.
The paper quoted Budi Irmawan, Director for Metal Industry at the ministry, said that the government was still analyzing on the impact of such policy on both the downstream and upstream industries.
The KPPI has proposed for a 14.5 percent import duty on wire rod, or Rp 872,200 per ton in the first year. Producers association has previously complained about the massive import of wire rod from China. (*)
