Ministry?s research center cooperates with Korean firm, agencies

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources? Research and Development Center (Balitbang) has signed cooperation agreements with Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas), Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (Kigam) and Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (Ketep) to study and develop coal bed methane (CBM) in Indonesia.
The cooperation agreements were signed by Balitbang?s Head FX Sutijastoto at Lotte Hotel in Seoul on May 16, the time President Joko Widodo was on a state visit to the country. Present at the signing ceremony were among others Minister of Trade Thomas T. Lembong and Head of the National Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky Sibarani and Head of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani.
Details on the content of the agreements were not immediately available.
Prior to the signing of the agreements, several agreements had been signed by the ministry and Korean firm and agency on energy research. In 2014, Lemigas, another research agency under the ministry, signed an agreement with Kogas to jointly research CBM. In 2010, Lemigas and Tekmira, another research agency of the ministry, signed an agreement with Kigam.
