The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will appoint three expert staffs to oversee the domestic market obligation (DMO) of the Mahakam block in East Kalimantan who will directly coordinate with Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar.

According to information obtained by Petromindo.com, the three are Awang H.Satyana, currently expert staff at upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas; Bayu Giriansyah, currently Head of Geosciences and Reservoir Technology Division at Total EP Indonesie; and Prof R.P.Koesoemadinata from the Bandung Institute of Technology.

?The decree for the appointment of expert staff of the Mahakam block DMO is being prepared by the vice minister of energy and mineral resources,? a source said.

The expert staffs have been proposed by SKK Migas and Total EP Indonesie.

The government has decided to transfer the operatorship of the Mahakam block to state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina once the current contract of French firm Total EP Indonesie (TEPI) and Inpex Corp over the block expires at the end of this year.

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Mahakam, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), said last month it was set to start drilling program at the Tunu field in Mahakam block in April of this year. PHE is a subsidiary of PT Pertamina.

As has been previously reported, Pertamina and TEPI plan to drill a total of 25 wells at the Mahakam block this year, of which 19 will be drilled by Pertamina with the state firm planning a total investment of US$180 million.

Gas production at Mahakam block currently stands at 1.74 bcfd, while condensate at 68,000 bpd. The Tunu field is the largest contributor to the gas production, around 700 mmscfd. Other fields contributing to the production includes Sisi Nubi, Peciko, and South Mahakam.
