Ministry to boost village power projects

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will next year develop 31 village electricity projects and 7 other big network projects to help increase the country?s electrification ratio.

The funding will come from the Ministry?s budget which has allocated Rp 9.18 trillion for power sector, to be overseen by the Ministry?s Directorate General of Electricity.

?The tenders for the projects will be carried out by (state-owned electricity firm) PT PLN and monitored by (Corruption Eradication Commission) KPK,? said Director General of Electricity Jarman told Petromindo.com.

He added that the projects were in line with the Ministry?s target of rising national electricity penetration next year to 73.6% from 2011?s 70.5%. ?In order to achieve that, it will need about 2.5 million new connections.? (edi)
