Ministry to launch E-PNBP in May

The Directorate General of Coal and Mineral at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources plans to launch in May of this year E-PNBP, an electronic system for the payment of mining royalty and so-called land rent, the two main components of government non-tax revenue from the mining sector (also known as PNBP).

This was revealed by a senior ministry official who requested for anonymity to Petromindo.com on Friday.

He said that the E-PNBP will help ensure state non-tax revenue from the mining sector. As the E-PNBP will be linked with systems in other government institutions such as the customs office and port, it would help prevent miners from abusing the self-assessment system in paying their royalty and other financial obligations to the state. For instance, sometimes bad miners did not calculate their royalty obligation using the coal or mineral reference price set by the government.
