Ministry to liquidate director general of mining on Jan. 1, 2001

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said the ministry would liquidate the directorate general of mining on Jan. 1, 2001 as the directorate general's role of managing the country's mining industry would dwindle in line with the country's decentralization programs.

Purnomo said on Monday during a meeting with the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA) that after the liquidation of the directorate general, mining affairs would be handled by the directorate general of geology and mineral resources.

He also said the ministry would form research and development unit education and training center. (Godang/Alex)
