The Directorate General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources unveiled last week the 21st batch of IUP mining business permits which have obtained the so-called clear and clean (C&C) status.
The directorate said in a statement that of a total of 915 IUPs recommended by provincial administrations to obtain the C&C status, only 46 were approved by the ministry, while the others were considered to have yet to meet the requirements.
Mining companies which have yet to meet the requirements should coordinate with the governors, which can later re-submit recommendation to the ministry once they have fulfilled the requirements, the statement said.
Among of the requirements include paying properly financial obligations to the state, and concessions not overlapping with that of other miners' or forest areas.
The ministry launched the C&C program in a bid to help clean up the messy mining sector resulting from aggressive issuance of IUPs in the past by local governments.
