Japan?s Mitsubishi is lobbying state-owned electricity firm PT PLN and its subsidiary PT Indonesia Power (IP) to become partner for the latter in the planned development of the 2x1,000 MW PLTU Jawa-1 coal-fired power plant project, according to a source.

?Quietly, Mitsubishi is seeking to cooperate with IP to develop Jawa-5 (project). The company is lobbying PLN and IP,? the source told Petromindo.com on Wednesday.

The source said that other Japanese firms, which earlier had been reportedly competing for the project, have agreed to let Mitsubishi to grab the Jawa-5 project in the hope that the others could grab other power plant projects such as the Jawa-1 project for Marubeni. ?As long as they are compact, they could grab the PLN projects,? the sources said.

PLN Power Procurement Director Supangkat Iwan Santoso declined to comment.

As has been previously by this portal, quoting a source, four Japanese firms including Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Marubeni, and Sumitomo, and IDX-listed coal giant PT Adaro Energy Tbk are competing to become IP?s partner in the PLTU Jawa-5 project.

PLN has appointed IP to develop the power plant project, to be located in Suralaya, Banten Province, which will form partnership with private investor.
