Mitsubishi, Toshiba win $430m contract to re-power Muara Karang

The Japanese consortium consisting of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and Toshiba Plant Systems & Services Corp has won the tender for re-powering Muara Karang gas-fired power plant unit, valued at US$430 million.
PLN’s deputy director for primer energy Tonny Agus Mulyantono said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the project aimed to increase the generating capacity of the gas-fired unit by 400 MW to 720 MW.
The project is expected to be completed in 30 months and the re-powering project would be financed by Japan Bank for International Corporation (JBIC), he said.
The Japanese consortium outbid rivals including Mitsui & Co. and Siemens AG
Muara Karang power station, located in the northern part of Jakarta, has a total installed capacity are 1208 MW. The power plant has several types of power generation units, including combined cycle type and gas turbine type. (godang)
