Mitsui plans coal gasification project in RI

Japan?s Mitsui Co Ltd through its local subsidiary PT Mitsui Indonesia has expressed interest to develop coal gasification project in Indonesia.

Director General of Chemical, Textile and Miscellaneous Industries at the Ministry of Industiry, Harjanto said Wednesday that the plan was unveiled by Mitsui Indonesia CEO Yukio Takebe during a meeting with Minister Saleh Husin.

Harjanto said that the government welcomes the project as it would be good for the country. He explained that the project would increase the value of the country?s low rank coal through gasification process, the gas output of which can be used as raw material for fertilizer industry to increase production, which in turn would support the government?s food security program.
