Saturday, September 13 2014 - 03:42 AM WIB
Director General of International Trade at the Ministry of Trade (MoT) Partogi Pangaribuan said that the number of coal mining firms which have obtained the necessary export license from the ministry has reached 36 as of Friday (September 12).
He said that 15 of the miners are those holding the so-called PKP2B coal mining contract of work, another 15 hold production operation IUP permits, and the remaining six holds special production IUP for transportation and marketing (see table below).
The MoT has issued a regulation requiring coal miners to obtain export permit from the ministry to be able to ship the commodity overseas starting October 1.
To be able to obtain the export license the coal miners must first get letter of recommendation from the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. There are a number of requirements that must be fulfilled by the coal miners to be able to get the recommendation, raising concerns that many miners would not be able to fulfill the requirements in time to get the export permit by October 1.
Meanwhile, Director General of Mineral and Coal R. Sukhyar said that despite the implementation of the export licensing policy, he is optimistic it would not disrupt the country?s coal production and export.
He said that coal output this year is expected to reach around 400 million tons, of which about 310 million tons will go to the export market, while 90 million tons to be used at home.
Sukhyar said that as of August of this year, production has reached 280 million tons.
He added that his office has issued recommendation letter for 49 coal miners, including 16 PKP2B miners and 33 IUP miners, to obtain the export license from the MoT.
