Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Jero Wacik and Cooperatives and Small and Medium Firms (KUKM) Minister Syariefuddin Hasan signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding on cooperation to empower cooperatives and small and medium firms in the development of new and renewable energy.

The energy and mineral resources ministry said in a press release on Tuesday that both ministers hope that through the new synergy the two ministries will increase the participation of cooperatives and small and medium firms in developing and managing new and renewable energy.

The cooperation will consist of two programs. The first program will be to empower small and medium companies and cooperatives in the development of infrastructure and facilities of the new and renewable energy. The second program is to improve the management skills of the local companies, other institutions concerned, and also people involved in developing the new and renewable energy.

Based on the MoU, the cooperatives and small and medium companies will be able to take part in the energy sector from the upstream to downstream.

The Indonesian government hopes that by developing the new and renewable energy, it will help growing the local economies where the energy sources developed and also further strengthen Indonesian energy resilience.
