MSC plans to export more tin from Indonesia: Report

Wednesday, May 30 2007 - 01:01 AM WIB

Malaysia Smelting Corp Bhd. (MSC) through its 75 percent subsidiary PT Koba Tin is in discussion with Indonesian authorities to reactivate the collection of tin ore from small-scale miners in Indonesia.

The company hoped that with the reactivation and the tin stocks that it already owns, it could export between 1,000 and 1,500 tons of tin a month.

“We are exporting now only from our own production base of about 500 to 600 tons,” chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Mohd Ajib Anuar said as quoted by Malaysian news agency Bernama.

Koba Tin, in which Indonesian company PT Timah holds the remainder 25 percent stake, halted all production early this year after three directors were held by Indonesian police investigating illegal purchases of tin ore. (*)
