Muara Karang power plant hit by gas supply disruption

Part of the greater Jakarta area suffered another power blackout on Tuesday after the Muara Karang power plant had to be shut down due to a trip in gas supply.
?The Muara Karang power plant was turned off again because of the trip in gas supply at 6 p.m.,? said Paranai Suhasfan, PLN Distribution Manager for Jakarta and Tangerang.
As a result, Jakarta suffered from a power deficiency of about 80 MW. Among areas affected by the electricity black out include Cengkareng, Kembangan, Puri, Ciledug, Cipulir, and other surrounding areas in South Jakarta.
Head of Gas and Fuel Division at PLN, Suryadi Mardjoeki told Petromindo.com Wednesday that the disruption in the gas supply for the Muara Karang power plant occurred because the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Jakarta Bay owned by PT Nusantara Regas suffered from a fourth trip incident, which accidentally occurred during peak power demand in the country. The disruption in the gas supply has forced PLN to increase consumption of petroleum-based fuel.
?The FSRU in the Jakarta Bay suffered another trip caused by trouble with the sea pump power, thus causing all trains of 177 bbtud (of gas) could not flow to Muara Karang,? he said.
