The PLN combined-cycle Muara Karang power plant, which supplies electricity to the Jakarta area, will no longer use petroleum-based fuel starting Monday (July 23) as full flow of gas from the West Java floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) commences, Investor Daily reported.
The power plant in the past usually consumed about 4,300 kilo liters of costly petroleum-based fuel due to the shortage of the main gas fuel.
Suryadi Mardjoeki, Head of Gas and Fuel Division at state-owned electricity firm PLN, said that the West Java FSRU starts commissioning at full capacity of 200 mmscfd on Monday, and which could be fully absorbed by PLN as the company has a capacity to absorb at least 165 mmscfd.
?This means that the Muara Karang power plant will no longer have to burn petroleum-based fuel to operate its generators,? he said, adding that this will in turn help save money as petroleum-based fuel is more expensive.(*)
