Muara Tawar gas power plant to use fuel in initial phase of operation

State electricity company PLN will use fuel as an energy source for its gas power plant to be built in Bekasi, West Java, until it can secure natural gas supply for it, company president director Eddie Widiono said Wednesday.

?In the initial phase, the plant will use fuel as its source of energy,? Eddie said in a hearing with a House commission in charge of energy and mineral resources, environment, and science and technology.

The tender to build the 6 x 10 megawatt plant will be closed on Friday (February 21).

Reports said that bidders for the project included Samsung Corp Engineering & Construction, Hyundai Eng & Const. C. Ltd, PT Adi Karya, General Electric Int, Inc, PT Hutama Karya, PT Indonesia Power, PT Siemens Indonesia, Mitsui & Co. Ltd, Mitsubishi Corporation, PT Tripatra Engineering, Sumitomo Corporation and PT Marubeni Indonesia.

Eddie said Wednesday the tender included the procurement of six generators of 100-150 megawatts.

The generators could be bought from General Electric, Allstom, Siemens and Mitsubishi, Eddie said.

Muara Tawar project is part of PLN?s priority program to cope with electricity supply shortage in Java and Bali. (godang)
