Coal concession owner Multi Jaya Energy, majority owned by Barito Mining group would commence production this month with initial target 1 million tons per annum, the source of the company told Petromindo.com.
It said that the annual production would be ramped up to between 2 million tons and 3 million tons within the next three years.
?The main strength in operation will be the short distance of hauling and barging to the loading point,? it said.
The company's concession of 9,085 hectares in Tanjung Palas Utara, East Kalimantan has a distance of 7.5 km only to a jetty at Sungai Ancam and, using 270-ft barges, from the jetty to the loading point in Tarakan is only about 30 nautical miles.
The average calorific value of Multi Jaya?s coal is 5,900 kcal/kg.
