Murphy yet to decide drilling 2nd well in Semai II block

US oil and gas company Murphy Oil is yet to make a decision on drilling Lengkuas-2 well, its second well in the Semai II exploration block offshore West Papua, pending the completion of the Lengkuas-1 well evaluation.
Hadi Prasetyo, BPMIGAS Regional Head for East Java and Papua Region, told Petromindo.com that Murphy is still evaluating the failed drilling on Lengkuas I.
Murphy drilled the Lengkuas-1 well to the planned depth in the middle of last year. However, it decided not to test the well as indications of hydrocarbon did not justify testing.
A source at BPMIGAS said if Murphy decided to drill the second well, most likely it would drill on shallow water prospect, closer to onshore area.
Murphy is the operator of the Semai II block. It partners with Japan?s Inpex Corp and Thailand?s PTTEP and state oil and gas company PT Pertamina. Semai II offshore block covers approximately 3,300 square kilometers, located south of West Papua. The block was awarded in November 2008.
