Mustang Corporation, a multisector company including nickel miner, is constructing nickel smelter in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. The smelter will process nickel ore to become nickel powder with 53 percent of nickel concentrate.

"Our smelter is under construction and is already about 20 percent of progress," Mustang Chairman Poltak Sitanggang told Petromindo.com last weekend in Jakarta, adding that the company is considering the appropriate technology to be applied for the smelter. "There are two options of technology, one from Canada and another one from Australia. Likely we will mix the two technologies as each of them has its own advantages.

However, Poltak did not give any further information about when the commercial operation target for the smelter.

PT Gatra Manunggal Jaya, a subsidiary of Mustang, owns and manages the nickel concession in Morowali, Central Sulawesi.
