After having been dispatched from Antwerp in Belgium in September, the MV Fortune finally arrived in the waters of Marisa, Gorontalo province Saturday, carrying the main equipment for the PLTG Gorontalo 100 MW gas-fired power plant.
State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said in a statement Monday that as the local jetty could not accommodate the 12,700-ton vessel, the main equipment including generators had to be transferred to smaller ship to be transported to the location of the project. The unloading process is expected to be completed on November 10 or 11, the statement said.
PLN said that as per October 25, progress of the PLTG Gorontalo project has reached 43 percent since construction started early September of this year by state-owned engineering and construction firm PT Pembangunan Perumahan.
PLN said that the first 50 MW of the power plant project is expected to start operation in December of this year or early next year, and the other 50 MW in March 2016.
Elsewhere, PLN said that a Hercules aircraft on Saturday transported two units of electricity transformer, each with capacity of 3,500 kVA and 5,000 kVA, for PLTD MFO Isimu diesel-fired power plant also in Gorontalo, hoping that the power plant to resume operation on Wednesday.
PLN said it would continue efforts to resolve the current power shortage problem in Gorontalo and North Sulawesi, which have suffered up to 50 MW power crisis during peak hours.
Among of the efforts is rental of a 120 MW PLTG Marine Vessel (floating power plant) to be stationed in Amurang under a five-year lease contract.
The power plant is currently on its way from Turkey, PLN said, adding that it is expected to arrive in Amurang end of November of this year.
