State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said that a leased marine vessel power plant (MVPP) with capacity of 60 MW arrived on Saturday at the Tenau Kupang Port in East Nusa Tenggara Province to supply electricity in the region.

?With the capacity, we?ll be able to supply electricity in the entire Timor mainland,? said Machnizon Masri, PLN Business Director for Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara Region in a statement obtained Sunday.

The statement said that the vessel is currently undergoing inspection at the immigration and quarantine office. Once completed, the vessel will be moved to the Bolok Port, and supplies electricity to the Bolok sub station, which will be then transmitted to the Timor System. PLN will also develop transmission network all the way to Belu Regency. The transmission network currently stops at Soe.

Once the 60MW MVPP begins supplying electricity, there will be electricity surplus in East Nusa Tenggara. With the Bolok power plant with capacity of 2x16.5 MW to start operation in 2017, there will be additional electricity output of 90 MW compared to peak load of 75 MW in Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara, PLN said in the statement.
