A 60 MW marine vessel power plant (MVPP) arrived in Wai, Maluku Tengah Regency, Maluku Province, on Wednesday, state-owned electricity firm PT PLN said in a statement on Sunday.

PLN said in the statement that it leases the MVPP from a Turkey-based company for five years to help increase power supply the region, particularly on Ambon Island.

PLN Business Director for Maluku and Papua Regions, Haryanto W.S. said in the statement that it would require another 12-14 days for preparations and a series of trial test before the power plant is connected the Ambon power system.

He said that the MVPP is a temporary solution to increase power supply on Ambon Island pending completion of a number of power plant projects including the 2x10 MW PLTP Tulehu geothermal power plant project and the 30 MW PLTMG Ambon Peaker gas engine power plant.

Installed capacity in Ambon Island currently stands at 61.2 MW, while peak load at 58.04 MW. Once the 60 MW MVPP is in operation, Ambon system will have power reserves of 63.16 MW, PLN said.

PLN said that as the MVPP has arrived, the company will soon start operating an extra high voltage elevated transmission line of 70 kV in Ambon with total length of 49 kms, and two substations (GI) with total capacity of 60 MVA, namely the GI Passo and GI Sirimau, through which the MVPP will supply its electricity and to be transmitted to the Ambon system.
