N. Sumatra power plant to start operations in 2008

State electricity firm PLN said on Thursday its US$182 million North Sumatra coal-fired power plant project would start operations next year and would help easing the province?s acute electricity shortage..
The company said in a release that the Labuhan Angin 2x115MW power plant in the coastal town of Sibolga will begin operations of the first unit in September next year, followed by the second unit in December.
PLN President Eddie Widiono officiated the installation of the plant?s drum boiler on Thursday.
The plant is constructed main contractor China National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export Corporation (CMEC) and several local sub-contractors such as PT.Truba Jurong, and PT Wijaya Karya.
The plant?s development is 85 percent funded by China EXIM Bank.
The plant would burn lower calorific coal of below 5,000 Kcal/kg. (godang)
