The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources formally launched on Thursday the regulation on the long awaited national coal policy, Neraca daily reported on Friday.

The national coal policy as stipulated in Energy and Mineral Resources Minister's decree No: 1128K/40/MEM/2004 will be used as the main guidelines for the central government, regional administration, producers as well as users in the production and utilization of coal in the country.

The policy is expected to be able to further promote the use of coal energy in the country and at the same time, sets a limitation on the production activities so that the coal mining activities would not pose a negative impact on the environment.

The policy also provides a guideline on the sales of the commodity so that coal could be optimally used to support the national energy program. (*)
