National electricity demand will reach over 144,000 GWH by 2010: Minister

Indonesia’s electricity demand is expected to reach 144,760 gigawatt hour (GWH) of electricity with peak load of 32,190 megawatts (MW) and 31,610 MW installed capacity by 2010, the Investor Daily Indonesia newspaper reported in its Thursday edition.

For this, the country needs around US$23.04 billion worth of new investment, including $13.33 billion for power generation, $3.5 billion for transmission and $5.21 billion for distribution network.

This was disclosed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The above amount, according to Purnomo, will be used for the building of 22,470 MW capacity power generation plants, 17,070 km long transmission lines and 50,250 MVA main grids and 11,370 MVA distribution grids.(*)
