Nebras Power to invest $1b in Sumatra power plant project

Qatar?s state-owned Nebras Power plans to invest up to US$1 billion in power plant and floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in Sumatra.
Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar said that about $800 million will be allocated to develop the Northern Part of Sumatra (Sumbagut) combined-cycle power plant (PLTGU) unit 1, 3, and 4, and another $200 million for the development of the associated floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
President Joko Widodo met with visiting Qatar?s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday, discussing among other things investment cooperation in various economic sectors.
Speaking at a press conference following the meeting, Arcandra said that Nebras Power will team up with PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB), a subsidiary of Indonesia?s state-owned power firm PT PLN, in the aforementioned project.
He added that the gas for the power plant project will be prioritized to come from the domestic sources, although import including from Qatar is allowed as long as the price is in line with the existing regulation, which stipulates that it must not exceed 14.5 percent of Indonesia Crude Price (ICP).
No further details about the project were provided.
