New coal mining site will be developed in South Sumatra

Jakarta-based PT Baru Alam Selaras will develop a new coal mining site in Bunga Mas village in Lahat, South Sumatra with an initial production capacity of 20,000 tons a month beginning 2005, local newspaper Sumetera Ekspress reported on Monday.
The head of the Lahat regency?s mining office, Nono Suratno, said that Baru Alam would cooperate with Thai company Banpu to develop the new coal mining site.
?The feasibility study has been completed. The company still carries out its environmental impact analyses (Amdal), while the mining test will be carried out between 2004 and 2005,? he said, adding that he hoped the commercial production could be carried out beginning 2005 with an initial production capacity of 20,000 tons a month.
He said that the production would be gradually increased to 50,000 tons month. (*)
