The Stagen coal terminal, which will be operated by state owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III in cooperation with PT Krista, had successfully carried a trial operation recently. At least 40,000 tons of coal were shipped through the new coal terminal during the one-month trial operation.
With the operation of the new coal terminal, the Tanah Laut regency will have three coal terminals. The other two coal ports are owned by PT Arutmin and PT Bulk Terminal Indonesia.
But the head of the branch office of PT Pelindo III Fatizonola said that the new coal terminal would not ship coal from the Tanah Laut regency which has been closed for coal mining activities. The new coal terminal will only handle the coal shipment from other areas in South Kalimantan. (*)
