New coordinating minister promises to reform BPMIGAS in 100 days

New Coordinating Minister of the Economy Hatta Rajasa said he had been assigned to reform the upstream oil and gas regulator (BPMIGAS) in the first 100 days in office, VIVAnews.com reported

?The reform must be completed in 100 days,? he said after the president unveiled his cabinet lineup on Wednesday evening.

The reform aims to increase the national oil and gas production. In order to reach the goal, BPMIGAS should speed up the approval of plan of development submitted by oil and gas contractors, boost the performance of state oil and gas company Pertamina and encourage an increase of investment in the sector.

Rajasa also pledged to maintain energy supply and uphold justice for all in the use of energy. ?Pertamina cannot conduct the job alone, it needs support from investors. Therefore favorable investment climate and adequate infrastructure must be in place,? he said.

He called on the public to promote efficiency in energy use, while the government will keep developing alternative energy. (*)
