New mining bill to be approved end of this year

Director general of mining Surna T. Djadjadiningrat expected the proposed new mining bill to be approved by the House of Representatives at the end of this year.

"We hope that two months from now the bill could already be debated by the House. This week it will be delivered to the ministry of justice," Surna said.

Surna said that the immediate approval of the new mining law was crucial because the existing law no. 11/1967 was no longer suitable with the current condition.

He also said that some of the eight generation mining contract of works were related to the new mining law. (R. Amoros)
