Three new power plants in South Sulawesi are expected to start operation soon, which will more than double the current power reserves in the province.

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN?s General Manager for South, Southeast and West Sulawesi (Sulselrabar) region, Bob Saril said in a statement on Wednesday that South Sulawesi currently enjoys power reserves of 200 MW.

He said that the reserves will jump to 495 MW when three new power plants start operation this year including 2x100 MW PLTU Jeneponto coal-fired power plant in November, 125 MW PLTU extension owned by Bosowa Energy, and 65 MW diesel-fired power plant in August.

He said that the higher power reserves should bode well for efforts to lure fresh investment in South Sulawesi. He added that the Sulselrabar region also currently enjoys power reserves of 200 MW.
