New regulation issued requiring fuel retailers to have gas dispenser

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan had on March 29 signed Ministerial Regulation No 25/2017 which requires all fuel oil refill stations in the country including those operated by foreign firms such as Shell and Total to have at least one gas dispenser.

Jonan said in a statement obtained Monday that the new policy is aimed at helping to increase the use of cleaner gas among motorists as part of energy diversification strategy and help achieve the government?s CO2 emission target.

He said that that new policy will be implemented gradually. Regarding the gas price, which currently stands at Rp 3,100 per liter of Premium gasoline equivalent, will be revised by the government.

?Gradually, all SPBUs (gasoline stations) in Indonesia will gradually have at least one gas dispenser,? Jonan said. He cited as examples that in Jakarta, the new policy will be implemented within six months, and in the Greater Jakarta Area within 12 months.

According to the new ministerial regulation, which has been effective since April 3, the minister determines the price of gas for transportation.
