Newcrest appoints Peter Hay as non-executive director

ASX-listed Newcrest Mining Limited announced Thursday the appointment of Peter Hay as a Non-Executive Director. His appointment is effective from today, 8 August 2013.

Hay brings to the Newcrest Board his strong background and breadth of experience in business, corporate law, finance and investment banking, the company said in a statement.

Hay is Chairman of the Advisory Board of Lazard & Co. Pty Ltd and has been a Director of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited since October 2008. He is a Non-Executive Director of Myer Holdings Limited, Alumina Limited, GUD Holdings Limited and Epworth HealthCare. Hay was a partner of the legal firm Freehills until 2005, where he served as Chief Executive Officer from 2000. He has been a Member of the Australian Government Takeovers Panel since May 2009.

Newcrest controls 75 percent stake in PT Nusa Halmahera, which owns and operates the Gosowong mine. The mine is located on Halmahera Island, in the North Maluku Province of the Republic of Indonesia, approximately 2,450 kilometres north east of the national capital, Jakarta. The Gosowong mining permit, called a Contract of Work (CoW), continues until at least 2029.
